GUIDANCE OFFICE GUIDE (Everything you wanted to know but forgot to ask!) The purpose of this guide is to provide a reference for all students and their parents to use as they develop career and educational plans. Throughout the course of the school year, Desert Mountain Counselors will provide meetings and/or workshops for parents at each grade level to discuss and provide information pertinent to each high school year. Parents are encouraged to attend these meetings. In addition, counselors meet with all students through their English classes to disperse important information about opportunities available and to help them plan their high school career. All of the information described in this guide is designed to direct students and parents in their pursuit of post high school opportunities. The handbook includes admission test information, local college requirements, application and transcript process, important deadlines, essay writing tips, calendar/time-line for admissions, college terminology, military information including Academies and ROTC, financial aid and scholarship information, NCAA process, and college/career materials. Deciding whether or not to attend college or which specific educational institution to attend is so important. Do not allow anyone other than you and/or your family to make these decisions for you. The role of the counselor is to help you get the information you need to make this decision in a stress free fashion. We hope that you will find the following information useful and in a format that is easy to read and apply. Best of luck with your post high school decisions!
